Synopsis
Gabriel Byrne explores the life, works and passions of George Bernard Shaw, a giant of world literature, and – like Byrne himself – an emigrant Irishman who had to leave to be heard. This documentary, from award-winning director Gerry Hoban, features contributions from President Michael D. Higgins, actors Gemma Arterton and Ralph Fiennes, historians Fintan O’Toole, Rachel Holmes and Diarmaid Ferriter and author and comedian Dara O’Briain.

Gerry Hoban is a highly-acclaimed Irish documentary director with more than 25 years of international experience. He is an acclaimed creator of powerful narratives which vividly bring major historical and cultural themes to life. Recently, Gerry has directed the award-winning Fanatic Heart: Bob Geldof on WB Yeats; Countdown to Calvary – a forensic historical investigation into the final week of the life of Jesus, presented by Hugh Bonneville; and My Astonishing Self: a major new documentary on the life of Irish author & campaigner George Bernard Shaw, presented by Gabriel Byrne.
