Over 400 viewers logged on to attend the IRISH FILM FESTA Silver Stream, the online event which ended on Sunday the 21st of March. The tickets booked for the three films featured amounted to a total of nearly 900; the film which attracted the greatest number of viewers was Tom Sullivan’s Arracht.
The comment of the IRISH FILM FESTA’s artistic director Susanna Pellis was, «This is a result which gives us a sensation (almost) comparable to that we experience as we watch that long line of spectators waiting outside the Casa del Cinema… It means that the formula worked and that, although we are obliged navigate by sight, we are already determined to try again. We can, for example, attempt to recover the programme scheduled for the edition of last March, frozen by the arrival of Covid. We liked those films so much that we feel it would be a shame not to share them with our audiences. The IFF Silver Screen will be back soon».
The IRISH FILM FESTA Silver Stream was held from the 17th to the 21st of March on the newly born IFI International platform dedicated to festivals of Irish cinema which operate internationally. This edition was held thanks to the support of the Embassy of Ireland to Italy.
The IFI International streaming service is a new initiative from the Irish Film Institute (IFI), supported by Culture Ireland. As Ireland’s national cultural institution for film, the IFI provides audiences with access to the finest independent cinema, preserves and promotes Ireland’s moving image heritage through the IFI Irish Film Archive, and provides opportunities for audiences of all ages to learn and critically engage with film. This new service is a welcome addition to the IFI’s long-running IFI International initiative, a programme which works closely with cultural festivals to bring the best of new and classic Irish cinema to venues around the world.
