SYNOPSIS

Set in Derry, Northern Ireland the early nineties, Derry Girls is a warm, laugh out loud funny and honest look at the lives of ordinary people living under the spectre of the Troubles, all seen through the eyes of 16 year old Erin and her friends.

 

CREATOR AND WRITER

Lisa McGee is a stage and screen writer born in Derry, Northern Ireland. She studied Drama at The Queen’s University of Belfast. Her plays include Jump, later adapted into a film; her television credits include the RTÉ television series Raw and the Channel 4 sitcom London Irish. The comedy series Derry Girls began airing on Channel 4 in the UK in January 2018, followed by Series two in March 2019

DIRECTOR

Michael Lennox, born and raised in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, is an NFTS (Beaconsfield) graduate in MA Fiction Directing. His short Boogaloo & Graham (2014, IFF.9) won the BAFTA and secured an Oscar nomination for Best Live Action Short. Michael’s feature debut as director, Patch of Fog, which starred Stephen Graham and Conleth Hill, received its world premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. For his work on Derry Girls, he won the award for Best Director of a Comedy Drama/Situation Comedy at the 2018 RTS – Royal Television Society Awards.
